Commodores fall to Wildcats on the road

The Lafayette Commodores traveled to face the Clarksdale Wildcats Thursday night, where they fell 34-14.

Lafayette’s record drops to 0-6 overall and 0-1 in region play.

Neither team managed to score in a defensive first quarter.

Clarksdale broke the deadlock in the second quarter with a touchdown and a successful two-point conversion, taking an 8-0 lead.

Lafayette responded as Nick Thompson hit Charon Bell for an 85-yard touchdown. After the extra point, the score tightened to 8-7 in favor of Clarksdale.

At halftime, the Wildcats held on to their narrow 8-7 lead.

Clarksdale extended their advantage in the third quarter with another touchdown, though the two-point conversion attempt failed after an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty. Clarksdale went up 14-7 over the Commodores.

Lafayette went three-and-out and punted the ball back to Clarksdale. The Wildcats took the ball down the field and found the end zone to go up 20-7 over the Commodores.

Lafayette answered early in the fourth quarter when Thompson ran in a two-yard touchdown, making the score 20-14.

Clarksdale answered with a touchdown as they drove down the field and was capped off by a two-yard run. The Wildcats scored a two-point conversion to go up 28-14.

Clarksdale intercepted a pass by Thompson and returned it for a touchdown to secure the 34-14 victory.

The Commodores return to home next Friday when they will play host to West Point, with kickoff set for 7 p.m.
