Jimmie Lee, the father of Jimmie “Jay” Lee, the Ole Miss student whose remains were recently discovered after he had been missing for over two years took to social media Thursday to thank supporters for their prayers, law enforcement, the District Attorney’s Office and God for giving him and his family strength.
“It’s been hard to say the least,” Lee said. “We’ve been taking it day by day. Finding Jay has created some sense of relief — some comfort … We are happy, but sad. I don’t know how you can do both emotions at the same time, but that’s what it is … Our thought process is justice now. We’re hoping and praying justice will prevail.”
Lee, 20, was last seen at about 6 a.m. on July 8, 2022, when he left his apartment at Campus Walk Apartments. Lee’s body had not been recovered.
Timothy Herrington, originally from Grenada but living in Oxford in July 2022, was arrested on July 22, 2022, and charged with Lee’s murder.
Lee’s remains were discovered on Saturday by hunters in Carroll County, which is located about 22 miles south of Grenada.
A trial took place in Lafayette County in December; however, the trial was declared a mistrial when the 12-person jury could not reach a unanimous verdict. The jury voted 11-1 to convict Herrington of capital murder. The trial has not yet been rescheduled.
