Lafayette’s Caroline Perkins and Rivers Rikard each scored two goals as the Commodores defeated Corinth in the Mississippi High School Activities Association’s Class 5A soccer playoffs on Friday night at William L. Buford Stadium.
Perkins’s first goal came at the 16-minute mark when she netted her own rebound off of the goalkeeper. She added a second goal eight minutes later when she dribbled along the goal line past a Corinth defender and kicked the ball inside the far post.
Rikard put Lafayette up 3-0 when she headed a ball off a corner kick.
Lafayette’s final goal came in the 67th minute when Rikard kicked in a rebound off the goalkeeper following a shot by teammate J’kiah Cohran.
Lafayette, now 16-7 overall, defeated Corinth three times this season without surrendering a goal.
Next up for Lafayette is a third-round playoff match against New Hope, which defeated Pontotoc 3-0 on Friday night. The teams have met twice this season with Lafayette winning both matches by 3-2 and 6-1.
