The Oxford Police Department has detained one person of interest who was allegedly involved in an armed robbery Thursday night on the downtown Square.
At 9:11 p.m. officers responded to South Lamar Boulevard after reports came in about a man with a gun. When officers arrived, they interviewed witnesses and an alleged victim who claimed he was robbed at gunpoint and the suspect then left the area on foot.
Witnesses report they saw OPD officers carrying a pair of boots from the scene.
The alleged victim directed officers to the area where the suspect ran.
No shots were fired and no one was injured. The weapon was recovered at the scene.
While officers were searching the area they located one of the individuals suspected to be involved. That person was taken into custody and OPD is now looking for an additional person of interest.
The incident is still being investigated and further details will be released as they become available.
“There are a lot of rumors out there and we are looking into all of these to rule out any possibilities that may assist our investigators,” OPD Maj. Jeff McCutchen said
this morning.
