OXFORD — Sam “Sammy” G. Kendricks, 79, died Sunday, Sept. 27, 2015, at Baptist Memorial Hospital–North Mississippi in Oxford. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Waller Funeral Home with the Rev. Erick Hankins officiating. Burial will follow in Oxford Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 11 a.m. until service time.
Born in Sunflower County, he was a graduate of Delta State University. While working on his undergraduate degree, he was quarterback of the football team, a member of the “M” Club and most importantly, met his wife, Joyce Hathorn — a cheerleader. He received his Masters of Education from Mississippi State University. A Clarksdale resident for 31 years, he retired from the Clarksdale School district as principal. Upon moving to Oxford, he became a member of First Baptist Church and the FBC Kitchen Sunday school class.
He was preceded in death by his wife.
He is survived by a daughter, Angel Kendricks of Oxford; two sons, Samuel Barr Kendricks of Gulfport, and Scott H. Kendricks of Oxford, and seven grandchildren.
