MEMPHIS — Gary Lee Thornton, 66, died Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2015, at the Veterans Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. A memorial service will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. at Thyatira Church of Christ with Brother Tim West officiating. Waller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Amory, he was a supervisor at the Marshall County correctional center. He was a deacon at the Thyatira Church of Christ and enjoyed bird watching and fishing. He served in the United States Air Force as a staff sergeant during the Vietnam War.

He is survived by his wife, Rhoda Thornton of Waterford; a daughter, Amy Lynn Bell of Mount Pleasant; two sons, Derek Thornton of Byhalia and Micah Thornton of Knob Noster, Missouri; a sister, Lori Thornton of Morristown, Tennessee; a brother, James Thomas Thornton, III of Iuka; and 12 grandchildren.
