Damage to gas line causes evacuation at OMS

Oxford Middle School teachers and administrators were evacuated this afternoon after a vendor making a routine delivery accidentally hit a gas line regulator while unloading the truck.
Personnel were safely evacuated, according to Oxford School District communications director Kelly Graeber, while the Oxford Fire Department, school resource officers and school maintenance staff addressed the incident.
Graeber said the gas line to the cafeteria is currently being repaired, which will impact how school cafeteria staff prepare breakfast and lunch on Tuesday.
“A school lunch entree will be served, but the school district will be unable to prepare the lunch entree previously scheduled for Tuesday,” Graeber said. “Parents and families can send a sack lunch with their child to school, if they choose to do so.
“School officials are thankful for all who helped make sure all were safe on our middle school campus today,” Graeber added.
As the gas line to the school cafeteria is repaired, school officials will keep parents and the community up to date with any changes made regarding this incident.
