OPC to consider changes to fall registration

The Oxford Park Commission is considering a change to its fall sports registration process that will mean less registration periods and outdoor time when weather starts to turn cold.
Currently, registration for fall baseball, flag football and soccer happen at different times during the late spring months. OPC Executive Director Seth Gaines is proposing have one registration period for all three sports.
The proposal also means playing all three sports at the same time during the fall.
“We are proposing playing them concurrently,” he said. “By doing that, we will have more time for basketball in the winter.”
Flag football generally runs the last week of August and runs into September, then fall baseball starts for a few weeks. After that, soccer begins at three nights a week and they go until a couple weeks into November. The new schedule would have all three sports starting in August and ending at the end of October.
“There would be no one outside in November,” Gaines said.
Under the new schedule, baseball would be played for six weeks on Sunday afternoons; flag football on Monday nights only; and soccer on Tuesday and Thursday nights.
Feedback appreciated
Gaines said the new proposed schedule does not affect the competitive programs; only the OPC recreational sports programs.
Gaines said he’d like to hear some feedback from parents about the proposed schedule change.
“They can talk to the OPD board members, or email or call me,” he said.
