As a civically engaged, proud Romanian-born American, I recoil from the mass hysteria that Donald Trump has fanned with his flamethrower.

Just look at the case of an American-born Haitian-Mexican medical student in NYC who was recently harassed by a white American for looking “suspicious,” also known as Muslim-looking.

In the movie line, the white man snapped, “You know what happened in Paris. Guys like you texting and standing … that’s suspicious.” Score a point for the thugs.

Banning all Muslims from entering America will just throw more red meat to I.S.I.S. recruitments around the world, including at home in the U.S.A., too.

Yes, stringent security clearances are needed for allowing refugees from war zones in the Middle East; however, let’s try not to be at each other’s throats in movie lines please.

With these chilling words, the English poet Francis Thompson penned: “Naught shelters thee, who wilt not shelter Me.”

As always, Lady Liberty has the last lines: “Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.”
