Rebels add Oregon State transfer Mageo
Ole Miss has bolstered its linebacker corps with the addition of Oregon State transfer Rommel Mageo, who signed with the Rebels on Wednesday.
Mageo, whose full name is pronounced ROE-mohl mung-YAY-oh, is expected to graduate from Oregon State this spring and join the Rebels for his senior year this fall.
A two-year starter and three-year letterman in Corvallis, Mageo will arrive at Ole Miss with 157 career tackles at the Division I FBS level. As the starting middle linebacker last season, the 6-foot-2, 233-pound bruiser led the Beavers with 87 total tackles, adding 2.0 sacks, two interceptions, three passes defended, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. He was also the team’s starting middle linebacker as a redshirt-freshman in 2013, when he compiled 47 tackles and 5.0 tackles for loss.
Mageo was an honor roll student at Oregon State and participated in a special forces leadership development program at Camp Williams in Utah.
A native of Pago Pago, American Samoa, he attended Samoana High School prior to college.
Mageo is the 24th member of this year’s consensus top-10 rated signing class that was ranked as high as No. 4 by ESPN.com
