Gracie Odell Avant Farmer

OXFORD — Gracie Odell Avant Farmer, 103, died Wednesday, March 2, 2016, at Oxford Rehab in Oxford. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in the Henry Chapel of Seven Oaks Funeral Home with Bro. Ken Salley officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Water Valley. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from noon until service time at Seven Oaks Funeral Home, which is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Water Valley, she was a member of First Baptist Church of Water Valley and the Order of the Eastern Star. During World War II she worked at a munitions factory where she made gun shells and bombs. After the war she worked at Ingalls Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed gardening, fishing and spending time with her family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 78 years, Woodrow Wilson Farmer; daughter Verdie Ruth Farmer Schaefer; son Alvie Odell Farmer; and three grandchildren.
She is survived by a son, Robert Farmer of Water Valley; 13 grandchildren; and numerous great and great-great grandchildren.
