MEMPHIS, Tennessee — Roy Owens Jr., 63, died Saturday, April 23, 2016, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-East in Memphis, Tennessee. Funeral services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at Jefferie Chapel M.B. Church with the Rev. McArthur King officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Viewing will be held on Friday from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. with family hour from 6-7 p.m. in the Vera Mae Hodges Chapel of Remembrance at Hodges Funeral Homes of Oxford, which is in charge of arrangements.

A native of Lafayette County, he was a retired sub-foreman for Emerson Electric. He was a member of Jefferie Chapel M.B. Church, where he was an usher, deacon in training, in the male choir and custodian. He was retired from the Army National Guard and the U.S. Army Reserve.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, James R. Owens.

He is survived by his wife, Dianna Owens of Abbeville; stepfather, Charlie Smith Jr., of Etta; son, Kendrick M. Owens of Duluth, Georgia; daughters, Everlean Brooks of Oxford, Wionna R. Watson and Katrina Owens, both of Abbeville, and Mirta L. Dean of Plano, Texas; brother, Ivan Owens of Potts Camp; sisters, Linda Nesbit of Etta and Shelia Lewis of Abbeville; and five grandchildren.
