TAYLOR — Loretta Joyce Cook Agnew, 59, of Taylor, died Friday, June 24, 2016. Visitation will be held at 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Serenity-Martin Chapel. A service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday at North Oxford Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Yocona Cemetery in Taylor. Serenity-Martin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Agnew was born on Oct. 21, 1959, to Rodell and Audrey Cook. Her birth certificate listed two dates as her date of birth, Oct. 21 and Oct. 22, therefore she celebrated both days.

At an early age, Loretta united with, and was baptized at North Hopewell M.B. Church, where she remained a member, serving faithfully on the kitchen committee. She started her formal education at Weems Elementary in Taylor and completed her education at Lafayette County School District, graduating in 1978.

In 1989, she was united in holy matrimony to Albert Agnew, who preceded her in death in 1990. Loretta was currently employed at the University of Mississippi in the facilities management department and was also employed at Kroger. She loved her jobs and was loved by all who knew her. She enjoyed spending time with family.

Loretta will be missed by all. She leaves to cherish her precious memories her mother, Audrey Cook of Taylor; her children, Rodney (Keia) Cook, Derrick (Cassandra) Cook, both of Pontotoc, Jeremy (Candies) Cook of Oxford, Lakeshia Cook of Taylor; special friend, Willie L. Hardin of Batesville; her siblings, Mart T. Winston of Kenosha, Wisconsin, Minnie Jackson of Racine, Wisconsin, Robert (Emma) Cook of Tupelo, Dorothy Cook of Jackson, Sharan Cook of Racine, the Rev. Kenneth Cook of College Station, Texas and Darnell Cook of Jackson; special niece, Jennifer Pettigrew of Racine; her grandchildren, Danaysha Jones, Makyah Jones, Nevaeh Cook, Meghan Bean and Caleb Bean; and special friend, Mildred Ivy.

She is further survived by a host of uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends too numerous to name.

Along with her husband, she is preceded in death by her father, Rodell Cook; sister, Selina Atchison; and nephew, Danté Jackson.
