The event will be held at the church from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and is free to anyone who wants to come, whether they are church members or not.

“There’s not really a playground or park in the Abbeville area so we thought this was something that would serve the children of the Abbeville area,” said Maria Bennet, a member of First Baptist. “We hope that it will be a place that would invite people to come and play — not just when we’re having events, but also on a pretty day.”

Family Fun Night won’t just be for the dedication of the playground; it will also be a chance for people to visit and have fun.

“There will be hamburgers, hot dogs, chips,” Bennet said. “We’re going to have snow cones. We’re going to set up games. There will be volleyball, kick ball, whiffle ball and corn hole. There will even be some indoor games.

“There’s something for everyone.”

The church hopes the event will give families a fun night out without having to spend a dime, no matter their age.

“This is all God’s doing,” said Michelle Hope, a church member. “This playground has been two years in the making and the support has just been amazing. The church community has been very supportive and helpful in helping to raise funds through dinners and donations. It’s been a labor of love.”

The church is located at 15 E. Long St. in Abbeville. For more information, call 662-234-3486.
