DALLAS — No. 22 Ole Miss soccer continued its push to the regular season with its first and only exhibition match Saturday, and came out on top, 2-0, over SMU at Westcott Field.
More than 12 hours after the original start time due to inclement weather Friday evening, the Rebels jumped out to a 2-0 lead early and held on throughout the full 90 minutes against the Mustangs.
Senior Gretchen Harknett and sophomore CeCe Kizer were credited with the scoring for Ole Miss, as senior Addie Forbus provided the helper to Harknett in the first goal of the day.
On the defensive end, goalkeeper Marnie Merritt was solid in goal with five saves, while Madi Killeen tallied six saves after entering as a sub in the second half.
The Rebels will open the regular season Friday at 6 p.m. against Louisiana-Lafayette at home. Ole Miss will host four-straight matches in Oxford to kick off the season.
