Nine Northwest Mississippi Community College students participated in the Fifth Annual Community College Apex Leadership Summit July 24-26 at the University of Mississippi. Students from statewide community colleges participated in leadership training sessions throughout the weekend.

The students attended the summit with Abby Embrey, assistant director of Recruiting.

According to Embrey, the students participated in team-building exercises with other student leaders from community colleges all over the state. They learned leadership skills through an activity, and a project. Each group was given a toy and had to relate the toy to leadership qualities.

Douglas was a part of the group that won first place overall. She received an orientation fee waiver and application fee waiver. Kimberlin’s group earned second place overall. She received an orientation fee waiver. Worley and Basil were part of the group that won third place overall, and they both received an application fee waiver.

“We are always so appreciative of what the University of Mississippi teaches our student recruiters while we are there.  They always come back to campus closer to one another and more enthusiastic about being a leader for the Recruiting Office and Northwest,” Embrey said.
