The Oxford Police Department arrested a Sardis man Wednesday for an alleged purse-snatching incident.

According to OPD, on Sunday, a victim told officers that a man came up to her at Walmart and asked to use her cellphone and when she was about to hand it to him, he jerked her purse from her and ran.

Investigators determined the suspect is Shameek Thomas of Sardis.

Thomas fled the scene in a vehicle. No weapon was used and no one was injured.

Thomas was picked up on a warrant Wednesday and taken to the Lafayette County Detention Center where he was booked on a $15,000 bond.
