Ole Miss women’s hoops release 2016-17 schedule

The Ole Miss women’s basketball team will play a 29-game slate that features 10 teams that played in the 2016 NCAA Tournament teams, it was announced on Tuesday by head coach Matt Insell. The Rebels will play an 18-game home slate at The Pavilion at Ole Miss and welcome seven SEC foes to Oxford, highlighted by Tennessee, Mississippi State and Texas A&M each making the trek to Oxford.

“We are excited about the challenges that our schedule will present us this season,” said Insell. “Our team returns eight of our top nine players from a year ago plus a very talented group of five newcomers, which brings a lot of excitement for our team and program as a whole.”

The Rebels will take on 13 non-conference foes, highlighted by home contests with Oregon and VCU. Fans will be able to get their first glance at the 2016-17 squad on Nov. 3 when they Rebels host Mississippi College in exhibition action.

“When putting our non-conference schedule together we wanted to make sure that we challenged our team early and often which will allow us to grow as a team against really good competition. I am excited about the opportunities our team has early in the season against great competition highlighted by home games against Oregon and VCU, a neutral site game against Wisconsin and a road game in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge against West Virginia.”

The SEC slate opens on Jan. 1 with a home contest against Arkansas. The Rebels will face Alabama, Auburn and Mississippi State twice during the SEC slate and will welcome Tennessee, Georgia, LSU and Texas A&M to The Pavilion at Ole Miss.

“As we move into SEC play, for the first time in many years, five of our eight home games will be played on Sunday afternoon which gives our fans an opportunity to come out and support our basketball team. Don’t miss out on the action and grab your season tickets now.”

In total, Ole Miss will make a minimum of eight television appearances in the regular season, highlighted by two Monday night games on the SEC Network at Mississippi State on Jan. 16 and at Florida on Feb. 6, with the option of additional non-conference games being selected for television. Additionally, all Ole Miss home games not selected for television will be produced for SEC Network +, and will be available on WATCHESPN and SECSports.com.

The 2017 SEC Tournament will be held March 1-5 in Greenville, South Carolina at Bon Secours Wellness Arena.
