OXFORD — Billy Gwinn Oates Sr., 76, died Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2016 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North MS in Oxford.

The funeral service will be Saturday, Oct. 8, 2016, at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Hanks officiating. Burial will follow in Abbeville Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday evening, Oct. 7, 2016 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.

Born to the late Marion Oliver and Elizabeth Edna Morrison Oates, Mr. Oates was a retired carpenter.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Johnnie Ruth Shoffner Oates and his brothers, Marion Oliver Oates Jr. and Michael Oates.

Survivors include his daughters, LaCinda Gayle Grffin and her husband James of Water Valley and Terria Kay Morrow and her husband Jerry of Gore Springs; her son, Billy G. Oates Jr. and his wife Tonia of Smyrna, TN; his sisters, Charlene Valdes and Shirlene Valdes of Jamestown, CA and Faye Smith of Memphis, TN; his brothers, Jimmy Dale Oates of Pope, MS and Johnny Carson Oates of Charleston, MS; eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
