The Laurel Golden Tornadoes have been rolling since their loss to Hattiesburg in week two. On Friday, Laurel won its fifth game in a row and made school history.
Up 7-0 in the first quarter, senior Kendall Breland rushed into the end zone from a yard out, becoming the first female in school history to score a touchdown in a varsity high school game.
WDAM-TV reports it’s also believed to be the first touchdown scored by a female in the history of Mississippi high school football.
Breland, who normally plays defense, said getting the score felt “awesome.”
She and the Golden Tornadoes (6-1) would go on to beat Wingfield, 61-14.
