Rufus Clyde Tubbs, Jr.

Rufus Clyde “R.C.” Tubbs, Jr., 80, died Wednesday, Oct. 12, 2016, at his home in Oxford. The funeral service will be Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016, at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert Allen and the Rev. David Ard officiating. Burial will follow in Eastover Memorial Cemetery. A catered visitation and reception will be held prior to the service beginning at 1 p.m. in West Hall at the funeral home.

Born to the late Rufus Clyde and Addys Earl Spears Tubbs, Mr. Tubbs was retired from the United States Postal Service. He was a member of First Baptist Church. He enjoyed Ole Miss sports where he operated the scoreboard for years in football and basketball. He was a veteran of the United States Army where he achieved the rank of Sergeant First Class. He served three years in the Army National Guard. Mr. Tubbs was an avid outdoorsman finding great pleasure in hunting and fishing. His hobbies included playing dominoes and studying family genealogy.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Christine Champion Tubbs; a daughter, Sandra Faith Tubbs and a sister, Norma Tubbs Clayton.

Survivors include his wife, Charlotte Mangum Tubbs of Oxford; daughters, Melissa Dianne Hughes and her husband, Guy of Pelahatchie, Angela Tubbs Robinson of Oxford and Kim Tubbs Baird and her husband, Shea of Oxford; his son, Rusty Tubbs of Oxford; his step daughter, Angela Bannerman of Vicksburg; his brother, Roger Tubbs and his wife Debbie of Tupelo; 11 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

The family of Mr. Tubbs would like to extend their great appreciation for all of his special caregivers. These include Mindy Harwell, Janice Wortham, Cindy Baker, the employees of Baptist Home Care and Hospice of North Mississippi and Fresenius Medical Care, who the family considered angels during the difficult days of his illness.
