Carwile deserving of honor

There’s no better way to honor the military and fallen soldiers in particular in Oxford than having our local post office named in honor of one who has served, and fallen in service.
So we as a community are both honored and thrilled by the efforts of U.S. Senators Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) and Roger Wicker (R-Miss.), and Representative Trent Kelly (R-Miss.) to have our main United States Post Office facility in Oxford named after one of our own, the late Army 1st Lt. Donald C. Carwile, who was killed in action in Afghanistan in 2008.
When President Barack Obama puts his signature on the bill to make the naming of our post office on McElroy Drive a reality, we can always remember 1st Lt. Carwile, a graduate of Lafayette High School, and others who have served this country in the military and continue to serve.
The persistence of our congressional leaders to see this bill through both the House and Senate is commendable. They understood the importance, and we appreciate their service in making this happen.
Oxford values all of those who have served and served, and we believe the late 1st Lt. Carwile’s honor stands for each of them.
