Celebrity deaths a sobering reminder

It’s astounding to think of how many iconic celebrities have died in 2016. From musicians to actors, athletes to astronauts, it seems we can’t make it more than a few days without losing another influential figure. And though the vast majority of us have no real-life connections to these people, many of them were part of our lives in some way, connecting with us through our radios and TVs, and helping to write part of our stories along the way.

It is a loud reminder of life’s frailty and the reality that time is something to be cherished and not taken for granted. Easier said than done, but as we approach the beginning of a new year and all of the possibilities that come with it, it’s a good time to take inventory of how our time is spent, as well as how we treat ourselves, other people and the community in which we live.

Steve Jobs spent years waking up and asking himself, “If today were the last day of my life, would I want to do what I am about to do today?” adding if the answer was “no” too many times, he knew he needed to make a change.

While the thought of being faced with our own mortality isn’t exactly a pep talk, it is a somewhat inspiring reminder to live our days as fully as possible and to spend our time focusing on the things that matter most to us.

It’s not about the number of days we have left. It’s about what we do with them.
