Eugene “Bobby” Autry, 81, passed away Friday, Jan. 13, 2017, at North Mississippi Medical Center, Tupelo, surrounded by his loving family. He was born April 25, 1935 in Pontotoc, to Cleve Autry and Della McKinnon.
Eugene retired from Brookwood Manufacturing after 35 years of service. He was a well-known “Chef” and for most of his adult life he enjoyed raising cattle. He was a member of Naylor’s Chapel CME Church serving as Sunday School Superintendent, Church Treasurer and President of the Board of Stewards for over 40 years.
He was the husband of Effie Autry and the father of three sons. Two sons, Melvin Autry and Michael Autry, his parents and one brother, Presley Autry, preceded him in death.
To cherish his loving memories he leaves his wife of 62 years, Effie Harrell Autry of Pontotoc; one son, Steve (Cheviere) Autry also of Pontotoc; two brothers, Lawrence (Irene) Autry of Holly Springs, and Billy (Katie) Autry of Oxford; one sister, Luller B. Ray of Beloit, Wisconsin; grandchildren, Marcus (Karin) Autry, Michael Autry, Maris Autry, Stephanie (Lee) Cooper, Sarah (Steve) Vanzant and Mike Hall, III; two daughters-in-law, Ruthie Autry of Pontotoc, and Benita Autry of Houston, Mississippi; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Services are Friday, Jan. 20, at 1 p.m., at Naylor Chapel CME Church, 326 Clark Street, Pontotoc, with burial at Pontotoc City Cemetery.
Serenity-Autry Funeral Home, Pontotoc, is in charge of arrangements.
