Maxine Henderson Karr

Maxine Henderson Karr, 87, died Friday, Jan. 27, 2017, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. A funeral service will be held Monday, Jan. 30, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Oxford, with Bishop Shawn Telford officiating. Burial will follow in Tula Cemetery. Visitation will be held Sunday, Jan. 29, 2017, from 4- 6 p.m. at Waller Funeral Home and also beginning at 10 a.m. on Monday at the church.

Born in Lafayette County, to the late James Roy and Velma Mitchell Henderson, Mrs. Karr was a retired bookkeeper and frontend manager at Liberty Supermarkets in Oxford. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and active in the Disabled American Veterans. She held several offices in the Lafayette County Genealogical Society. She had the opportunity to write many articles for the Oxford Eagle. Mrs. Karr found great joy in quilting with her sisters and sewing and knitting.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Shoffer Daniel Karr, Jr., and sisters, Jimmie Ruth Franklin, Marjorie Davis and Laverne Edwards.

She is survived by her daughter, Ruth Ann Prather of Oxford; sons, Shoffer Daniel “Danny” Karr, III and his wife, Pamela of Columbus, and Dennis Eugene Karr of Oxford; six grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.
