OPD investigates shooting

A man was shot in the leg after two men approached him Friday night in an attempt to rob him.
According to the Oxford Police Department, at 7:35 p.m., officers responded to Pegues Road in reference to an assault with a firearm. Officers met with the victim who had a gunshot wound to his leg. He told officers he was approached by two black men asking for a cigarette. When they walked over to him the suspects pulled firearms and attempted to rob him of his money and jewelry. The victim refused to give up his money and jewelry and one of the suspects shot him the leg then fled on foot.
Officers set up a perimeter of the area and began searching for the suspects, who have not yet been found.
The victim was taken via ambulance to Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi where he was treated and released.
OPD did not release any further description of the suspects this afternoon.
