Man allegedly attempts to assault woman
An Oxford man has been arrested for attempting to sexually assault a female he offered to drive home Friday night.
According to the Oxford Police Department, the victim claimed she was walking home on Jackson Avenue when a male subject, later identified as Tony L. Jones, 40, of Oxford, approached her.
She said Jones offered to drive her home. She claimed the next thing she remembered was waking up inside Jones’ house, who allegedly used a baseball bat to wedge the front door closed. The woman said Jones tried to sexually assault her but she was able to escape and leave the house, taking a photo of Jones’ vehicle and tag number before leaving.
The victim identified Jones in a lineup as the man who tried to assault her.
Jones was taken to the Lafayette County Detention Center where he was booked on a $25,000 bond.
