Ruth Kelly Miller, 97, died Tuesday, March 21, 2017, at Oxford Health and Rehab in Oxford. The funeral service will be held Saturday, March 25, 2017, at 12 p.m. in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home with Rev. Shuler Griffin officiating. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. — 12 p.m. prior to the service at Waller Funeral Home. The graveside service will be later that afternoon at 4:30 p.m. in Miller Cemetery in Lockhart.
Born in Pontotoc County to the late Nathan Lamar and Fannie Green Kelly, Mrs. Miller was a house mother for 26 years at the Alpha Tau Omega and the Kappa Alpha fraternity houses at Ole Miss where she loved all of her “boys.” She also had worked as a kindergarten teacher at Daniel Memorial Baptist Church and McDowell Road Baptist Church in Jackson. She was very active in her children’s sports and activities as they were growing up.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, E.J. Miller Jr. and a daughter, Patricia Gail Mormon.
Mrs. Miller is survived by her daughter, Elaine Earney Janos of West Memphis, Arkansas; sons, Butch Miller and his wife, Loyce of Ruston, Louisiana and Frank Lamar Miller and his wife, Pat of Winona; six grandchildren, Carrie Flournoy and her husband, Daron, Alice Keyes and her husband, Tim, Meredith Meurrier and her husband, Michael, Peyton McCormack, Ford Earney, Jr. and his wife, Meghann and Bryan Earney and his wife, Valerie and nine great-grandchildren.
