OXFORD — Melvin “Mel” Davis, 79, died Monday, April 17, 2017, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2017, at 11 a.m. at North Oxford Baptist Church burial to follow in North Oxford Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9-11 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Waller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Bettye L. Davis of Oxford; two sons, Claude Melvin “Little Mel” Davis, Jr. of Oxford, and Scotty D. Davis of Memphis, Tennessee; sister, Sylvia Davis Stovall of Flora; brother, Jerry N. Davis of Yazoo City; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
