The best outing of his career resulted in a weekly honor for Ole Miss’ James McArthur.

McArthur was named Southeastern Conference Pitcher of the Week by the league office Monday. It’s the second time in his career the sophomore right-hander has won the weekly award.

McArthur improved to 3-3 and lowered his earned run average to 3.08 by shutting down a top-15 Arkansas team in the Rebels’ 9-1 win Thursday in the teams’ series opener. He allowed just one hit and struck out six in a career-high eight innings, tossing six clean innings and retiring 24 of the 27 batters he faced.

In 52 2/3 innings this season, McArthur is limiting opponents to a .169 average, the lowest among SEC qualified starters.

Ole Miss will be back in action Tuesday at Swayze Field for the first of two midweek games against Louisiana-Monroe. First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
