Deciding what’s for dinner won’t come any easier than on May 26 thanks to the Oxford Exchange Club.
The club is selling whole, prepaid Boston butts and chicken plates to raise money to support their many programs that serve local children.
Orders for the Boston butts, prepared by master griller Steve Fielder, are being taken through Sunday and cost $30. Barbecued chicken plates, also prepared by Fielder, will be available for $10 and will include coleslaw and baked beans.
Event organizer Wayne Perkins said it’s the club’s first attempt at the barbecue fundraiser.
“We hope it will be a good fundraiser and something we can continue each year,” he said Thursday at the club’s regular weekly meeting at the Oxford-University Club.
Those who order the butts or chicken plates can pick them up between 4 and 6 p.m. May 26 in the Oxford and Lafayette County Chamber of Commerce parking lot.
Perkins said the club will cook a few extra butts and chicken plates for those people who couldn’t order by Sunday.
“Come on down even if you didn’t order and we should have extra,” he said.
Payment is taken when the food is picked up on May 26.
The funds raised will go to the club’s annual projects that include Christmas gifts to veterans, Youth of the Month awards for local high school seniors, art supplies for the Oxford Boys and Girls Club, American flags for the 4th of July Parade and honoring local police officers with their annual Oxford Police Officer of the Month, as well as giving donations to other local nonprofit organizations.
