James Gundy Dubberly

James Gundy Dubberly, 88, passed away peacefully Thursday, May 18, 2017, at his Oxford home with his wife and family at his side. A celebration of Jim’s life will be held Monday, May 22, 2017, at 2 p.m. at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church with The Reverend Jody Burnett, Rector, The Reverend John Moore and The Reverend Park Neff officiating.  Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 1 p.m. in the Parish Hall.  Burial will follow at Oxford Memorial Cemetery.  Waller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangement.

“Dub,” as he was affectionately known, was born in Glennville, Georgia on June 6, 1928 to Mary Souter and Leroy DeLoach Dubberly, whose families were among the some of the early pioneer stock of Georgia. His family moved to Moultrie, Georgia in 1935, and Dub graduated from Moultrie High School in 1945. He attended Auburn University where he was a member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. He graduated from Auburn in 1949 with a Bachelor of Science degree. He enrolled in Officer Candidate School in 1951 in Fort Benning, Georgia where he made many lifelong friends. He proudly served in the U.S. army during the Korean Conflict from 1950 -1953 as a First Lieutenant.

Dub married Jane Chancey of Enterprise, Alabama in 1953, and they later moved to Greenville, Mississippi in 1961.  He was a founder of Prince Corporation in Dallas in 1973 and Delta Brokerage Company of Greenville in 1974 where he served as President and had the privilege of working with his son John.  He served on the Board of Directors of Ozark Food Processers for many years. He and Jane were active member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Greenville for many years, where he was an active board member and taught Sunday school. He served as a trustee of Washington School in Greenville.

Dub will always be known for his irrepressible sense of humor, his loyalty and love of his friends and family, and his incredibly generous spirit. He was loved by many.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years Jane, his daughter Darri Mansel (Keith); his son John (Mary Preston), and his daughter Beth Little (Joel). His son James DeLoach Dubberly preceded him in death 1979. He leaves his four grandchildren: Ferriday McClatchy (Charly), Jane Tuckey (Adam), Hays and Preston Dubberly. He is also survived by a great grandson Charles McClatchy.

In honor of Mr. Dubberly’s service to his country, the flag of the United States Army will fly at Waller Funeral Home.
