Well, that certainly lived up to expectations.
Ole Miss hosted its first-ever NCAA softball regional and it was a sellout success for three days, with the Rebels winning all three games to claim the title. Now Ole Miss will face UCLA in the NCAA Super Regional, with a berth in the College World Series on the line.
Consider that must-see May TV.
The storylines of this softball experience are captivating. For Ole Miss, there’s no better one to follow than that of pitcher Kaitlin Lee, who on Sunday pitched her 12th consecutive complete game.
No, that’s not a typo. This late-season surge from Ole Miss, winning the SEC Tournament and the NCAA Regional, has all come with Lee on the mound — for every single win.
Let’s not forget that more than 5,000 fans watched the games at Ole Miss this weekend, either. That makes another reason to embrace this run by softball. There’s the natural fact that it’s a Rebel team winning.
But there’s also the fact that it is exciting to see the rise of a women’s team engaging the community and generating so much excitement.
We’ll be watching this Super Regional with interest, and have no doubt that win or lose, it will be worth tuning in for.
