Ole Miss will once again be part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge.
The Rebels will travel to Texas as part of next season’s challenge, which will be played Jan. 27, 2018. The Southeastern Conference announced the challenge’s 10 matchups Thursday.
Teams participating in the the Big 12/SEC challenge, which began during the 2013-14 season, agree to a two-year contract, meaning Ole Miss is guaranteed to also play in the event in 2019. Ole Miss has yet to win a game in the challenge, falling to Kansas State twice, TCU and, most recently, Baylor.
Texas joins a known non-conference slate for the Rebels next season that also includes games against Virginia Tech, Middle Tennessee State — NCAA Tournament teams this past season — and Utah. Ole Miss’ full schedule will be released at a later date.
Ole Miss is coming off a 22-14 season that ended in the National Invitation Tournament quarterfinals after the Rebels finished tied for fifth in the SEC standings. Texas missed the postseason all together after going 11-22 in Shaka Smart’s second year at the helm, though the Longhorns have a top-10 recruiting class coming in.
