It’s voting time, Oxford.

Today is the general municipal election, and sometime tonight the next Oxford Mayor and Board of Alderman will be set, ready for another four-year term.

There’s no drama in the mayor’s race, of course. Pat Patterson did not seek election for another term and Ward 2 Alderman Robyn Tannehill is unopposed in seeking her first term as mayor.

But that doesn’t mean that voting today for Oxford’s next mayor is not important. Voting is part of the process, and having engaged citizens makes for a better city. Our new mayor needs support to start this new leadership chapter so every vote does count.

And two races for alderman are on the line today, and likely close since all candidates have valuable qualifications and contributions they can make.

In Ward 2, Republican Mark Huelse is facing Democrat Paula Shanks. In Ward 6, incumbent Jason Bailey faces Democrat Wayne Andrews.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. and all residents will cast their vote at the Oxford Conference Center.

We hope Oxford citizens will turn out today and vote and we look forward to seeing the results and beginning a new chapter in the city’s leadership history.
