Dr. Roy Newton Moore, 83, died Sunday, September 24, 2017 at Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford, MS. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at 11:00 A.M. at St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Oxford, MS with Rev. Billy N. Owen officiating. A graveside service will be held the day of service at 2:30 P.M. in the Coahoma County Memorial Gardens in Clarksdale, MS. Visitation will be held at the church prior to the service beginning at 9:30 A.M. Waller Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Lambert, MS to the late William Bryan and Madge Youngblood Moore, Dr. Moore was a Captain in the United States Army. He graduated from Walnut Conservatory High School and went on to complete a Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Arts and Masters of Business Administration from the University of Southern Mississippi and a Ph.D. from the University of Alabama. He was a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church and taught Sunday school there. Dr. Moore served the communities of Hattiesburg, Cleveland and Oxford as a Rotarian for 25 years. He had served as Chair of the Department of Management at the University of Southern Mississippi, Dean of the School of Business at Delta State University, and as the Executive Director of the Association of Collegiate Business Schools and Programs in Overland Park, Kansas where he retired. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Clayton Paul Moore.

Dr. Moore is survived by his wife of 63 years, Maxine Bayles Moore of Oxford, MS; daughter, Marcia Moore Wheat and her husband, Steve of Montgomery, AL; sons, Roy Bryan Moore and his wife, Millie of Homer, LA and Richard Glenn Moore of Freeport, TX; sister, Janie Sue Moore of Oxford, MS; sister-in-law, Angel Moore of Clarksville, TN; brother, Alton E. Moore and his wife, Maxine of Grapeland, TX; five grandchildren, Bryan Moore and his wife, Meg of Ruston, LA, Bethany Moore Morris and her husband, Koby of Van Buren, AR, Angela Wheat of Montgomery, AL, Dakota Lott Lacombe and her husband, Jacques of Madisonville, LA and Kory Lott of Bogalusa, LA and four great-grandchildren.

In honor of Dr. Moore’s service to our country, the flag of the United States Army will be flown at Waller Funeral Home.
