Mr. Calvin L. Johnson, 92, passed away Monday, Oct. 2, 2017, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Calhoun City, Miss. A memorial service will be held by the family, Friday, Oct. 6, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Shady Grove Baptist Church (1638 Shady Grove Rd., Batesville, MS 38606). Interment will be at Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Johnson was born in Sparks, Okla. He spent the majority of his life breeding and training horses. Mr. Johnson loved nothing more than spending time with his horses and training them. He also served in the United States Navy.

He is survived by his wife, April E. Johnson of Bruce, Miss; one sister-in-law, Polly Johnson of Oxford, Miss.; one nephew, Eddie (Carolyn) Johnson of Harrah, Okla; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James Walter Johnson and Tennie Johnson; five brothers, J.C. Johnson, David Johnson, Marshall Johnson, Wesley Johnson, and William Johnson; and four sisters, Estelle Miller, Anna Belle Johnson, Freida Kriz, and Louise Kohler.

Donations and memorials in honor of Mr. Calvin Johnson may be made to the Shady Grove Baptist Church Cemetery Fund in care of Ruby Lawrence (161 CR 317, Oxford, MS 38655).
