Ed Orgeron vs. Ole Miss will be hard to beat

Just like that, Ole Miss football is fun again.

The Rebels rolled Vanderbilt, scoring 57 points on a hot, sunny Saturday, to remind everyone this season should not be forgotten.

Down in Baton Rouge, LSU pulled out a surprising comeback win over Top 10 Auburn. It was the second straight win for head coach Ed Orgeron and LSU after losing at home to Troy.

Ole Miss fans were laughing since Orgeron, who coached Ole Miss from 2005 to 2007, is arguably the worst Rebel football leader ever. He won just three SEC games in three seasons and was more of a cartoon character than anything else.

Orgeron is remembered for tearing his shirt off in a meeting with players and telling them, while bare-chested, he would wrestle any one of them. He slugged Red Bull energy drinks and beat a drum in the Ole Miss coaching offices at 7 a.m., loudly ringing in the ears of assistant coaches.

The list could go on. Orgeron was a decent recruiter, bringing in talent that would later help Houston Nutt win for two seasons. But most everything about his three seasons here was an embarrassment.

That’s why it will be fun to have Orgeron back on campus Saturday. It’s Coach O vs. Ole Miss in a night game in Oxford. Hard to beat that.
