Jonathan Roy “Pete” Lewis Jr., 73, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2017, at Baptist Memorial-North Mississippi.  Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 10, 2017, in West Hall at Waller Funeral Home in Oxford, Miss. from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. with the funeral service immediately following in the Chapel of Waller Funeral Home with Rev. Curt Presley and Mr. Webb Lewis officiating.  Burial will follow in the Clear Creek Cemetery.

Before roaming a Mississippi High School Football sideline as a coach for 36 years, Pete was a 1962 graduate of Drew High School and later, Delta State. After impacting hundreds of lives and hanging up his whistle forever, he joined the Student-Athlete Development staff at the University of Mississippi where he would spend a decade mentoring Ole Miss athletes. His love for athletics was only overshadowed by his love for his family.  Spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren gave him great joy. He is preceded in death by his father and mother, Mr. Jonathan Roy Lewis Sr. and Mrs. Carrie Lee Lewis.

He is survived by his wife Mary Lynn Lewis of Oxford, Miss; a daughter, Casey L. Mars (Adam) of Philadelphia, Miss; two sons, Jon Lewis of Oxford, Miss and Webb Lewis (Tiffany) of Oxford, Miss; eight grandchildren, Jae Lewis, Allie Lewis, Jordan Lewis, Mary Montgomery Mars, Maddox Mars, Alex Mars, Jax Mars and Jack Lewis.
