Dog lovers and their furry friends can spend time together this Sunday during the first Muttvember Fest being held in Taylor’s Plein Air.

The event is being hosted by Grit restaurant and will benefit Mississippi Mutts, a local group of volunteers who help find forever homes for dogs by sending them to rescue shelters up north and along the east coast.

“Grit reached out to us and offered to host this fundraiser for us and we couldn’t be more appreciative of their support and work in all this,” said Mississippi Mutts board president Katie Muldoon.

The event, which runs from noon until 4 p.m. Sunday, will include crafts for children and a fun photo booth for people and their pets.

“There will be amazing food, beer, coffee and goodies for four-legged attendees as well,” Muldoon said.

Hollywood Feed employees will be at the event handing out goodie bags and providing a raffle prize. In addition to Grit, Heartbreak Coffee, Homeplace Pastures, Vaughn Designs, The Cakery, Cotton’s Café, Better Brands, Old Shed Brewery and artist Debbie Myers have also provided donations to the event.

“We are infinitely grateful for their support,” Muldoon said.

Dogs are of course welcome to attend the event with their people; however, they do need to be on a leash, Muldoon said.

“We are looking forward to sharing our mission — and some of our rescue pups — with the community and offering information and answers about what we do, and plan to do, for homeless animals in Mississippi,” she said. “As much as this is a fundraiser, it is also an opportunity for us to explain how we work and what we’ve been up to the last two months.”
