A few hours after the first patients were moved into the Baptist Memorial Hospital-North Mississippi in Oxford, a very special delivery arrived.
At 4:42 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 25, Aiden Shaw became the first baby born at the new hospital. He weighed 6 pounds and measured 18 inches long and was welcomed by his mother, Victoria Alford; father, Jeffery Shaw and big brother Brandon Shaw.
The family is from Oxford. Dr. Sam Cole delivered Aiden and Dr. Tanya Fitts served as his pediatrician.
Alford said she didn’t know she was the first to deliver a child at the new hospital until after little Aiden was born.
“It’s very exciting to know we were the first at a brand new hospital,” she said Monday morning. She said she and Aiden get to go home Tuesday but has enjoyed her stay at the new hospital.
“The rooms are big bigger and better than at the old one,” she said.
