A local man was arrested Sunday for illegal begging when Oxford Police officers discovered the man had a large amount of cash in his possession.

According to OPD, officers approached the man at Walmart after someone complained he was asking people for gas money. When officers approached him, they discovered he was carrying a large amount of money on him.

“It was apparent he had plenty of money for gas,” said OPD Maj. Jeff McCutchen.

Since the crime is a misdemeanor, the man’s name was not released.

McCutchen said the man was served the citation and released without incident.
