Helen Alice Sugg Aderholdt

Helen Alice Sugg Aderholdt, 93, of Oxford, Miss. passed away peacefully at her home on Dec. 19, 2017. She was born on Sept. 15, 1924 in Stovall, Miss. to Aby Duncan Sugg and Aline McCaughan Sugg. She was a graduate of Clarksdale High School and Mississippi State College for Women. She married Maurice Roger Aderholdt in 1979.
After graduating from college Helen lived in Washington, D.C. and worked as a civilian employee for the Navy writing citations after WWII. Upon returning to Mississippi she went to work for WROX in Clarksdale, Miss. This began her 30-plus year tenure with the radio station.
In addition to copywriting, she worked in almost every aspect of the business. While at WROX she started the “Here’s Clarksdale” publication. Helen eventually bought a printing company, Litho-Print, so that she could print “Here’s Clarksdale” herself. Later she worked with Graham Media in Clarksdale.
Helen was a member of Oakhurst Baptist Church in Clarksdale and First Baptist Church in Oxford where she was actively involved in the Karis II Sunday School Class. She loved to travel and to spend time with family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband. Survivors include niece Beth Fowlkes DuVall and nephew Thomas DeBow Fowlkes (Vicki) and their families. Also surviving Helen are cousins (and their families): Joe McCaughan, Evelyn Sugg Lopez, Mary Leila Sugg McFarland, Dorothy Ruth Sugg, Harry Lee Sugg, Lucius Duncan Sugg, and Margaret Fleming.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, Dec. 26 from 5 to 7 p.m. and the service will be Wednesday, Dec.27 at 11 am with visitation and lunch to follow. Both will be held at Coleman Funeral Home in Oxford, Miss. A family burial will be held at Oakridge Cemetery in Clarksdale later in the day.
