Students get second snow day

Early morning snowfall canceled schools around Oxford and Lafayette County for the second time in a week giving most students and teachers a five-day weekend.
Temperatures dropped overnight and snow started falling at about 4 a.m. in Lafayette County; however, Oxford and Lafayette County school districts had made the call to cancel school Monday evening.
By 8:30 a.m. 1 to 2 inches of snow had fallen around the county with snow expected to continue until about noon today. The National Weather Service issued a Winter Storm Warning Monday for Lafayette County the is expected to end at noon.
The University of Mississippi and Northwest Mississippi Community College also closed their Oxford campuses for the day.
Schools were closed Friday due to snow and icy road conditions.
Oxford Environmental Services and Lafayette County Solid Waste Department announced this morning that offices will be closed and garbage pick-up for today has been suspended. Today’s routes will be collected Wednesday.
Oxford and Lafayette County government offices and the Lafayette County Justice Court are closed today.
The Oxford Board of Aldermen’s regular meeting scheduled for today has been rescheduled for 5 p.m. Wednesday at City Hall.
The Lafayette County Board of Supervisors recessed their meeting today to 5 p.m. Thursday at the Chancery Building where they will vote on whether to implement a new zoning ordinance.
The Oxford EAGLE offices will close at noon today. Delivery could be delayed due to poor conditions.
