Game night is a good idea

Sometimes state laws can seem silly.
Like the one stopping Tallahatchie Gourmet on the Oxford Square from hosting bingo games.
Because the Mississippi Gaming Commission regulates bingo, the restaurant on the Oxford Square has been told it can’t host a weekly bingo game night, even though the restaurant didn’t keep proceeds.
We told you about the story this week and restaurant owner Angele Mueller’s creative efforts to come up with a solution. Now, we want to take a moment to say that we applaud Tallahatchie Gourmet, located beneath Nielsen’s, for hosting a game night in the first place and hope that it can soon find a creative way to continue.
We’ve seen trivia and other games become popular friend and family events at bars and restaurants in recent years and the Tallahatchie Gourmet bingo night was another iteration. We had heard residents talking about the fun they had playing.
But then we heard the state’s gaming commission said no.
At this point, Mueller is close to a solution, coming up with a similar game that’s just not called bingo. We’re hoping that works, since game night is a winner any night of the week.
