Summer is still in full swing and preseason football has yet to begin but there are already coaching staffs in place for a football all-star game.
The Mississippi Association of Coaches announced the coaching staffs for both the North and South teams in the 2018 Bernard Blackwell North/South All-Star Game. Oxford head coach Chris Cutcliffe was selected as one of the six assistants for the North team.
Starkville’s Chris Jones was named the head coach for the North. North Panola’s Carl Diffee, Houston’s Ty Hardin, Itawamba AHS’ Clinton Hoots, Cleveland Central’s Ricky Smither and Starkville’s Kevie Thompson round out the North’s coaching staff.
“It is definitely an honor to be selected as an assistant coach for the Bernard Blackwell game,” Cutcliffe said. “I have a tremendous amount of respect for coach Jones and I look forward to working him and the rest of the outstanding staff he has assembled.”
This is the second all-star game Cutcliffe will coach in his career. He was an assistant coach for the Northeast Mississippi Football Coaches Association All-Star game previously.
The Benard Blackwell North/South All-Star game will take place on Dec. 8 at Gulfport’s Milner Stadium.
Brandon’s Tyler Peterson will helm the South team and fellow Bulldog coach Greg Robinson will join him on the staff. Poplarville’s Jay Beech, Stringer’s John Brown, Oak Grove’s Drew Causey, Morton’s Ty Weems and Forrest’s Jonathan Worrell fill out the South staff.
The 2018 regular season for football begins on Thursday, Aug. 16.
