Sam Kendricks caps busy weekend with Athletics Cup title

Sam Kendricks’ world domination continued this weekend. The Oxford native competed in two events in the span of three days on two continents, and won them both.

Last Friday, Kendricks competed in Rabat, Morocco during a stop on the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Diamond League circuit. It was the first time competing in Africa for Kendricks, who came away with the men’s pole vault title. He defeated nine other vaulters, clearing 5.86 meters for the winning height and a new meet record.

With the win, Kendricks padded his lead in the season standings with eight more points. His total is up to 31 extending his lead over Pawel Wojciechowski of Poland by 10 points. The next event on the Diamond League tour is this weekend in Monaco.

Following his win in Africa, Kendricks then traveled to London to compete in the Athletics World Cup on Sunday. It is an event that pits eight of the world’s top athletics nations against one another in track & field competitions. With one day of rest the reigning U.S. champion took the pole vault title with a vault of 5.83 meters.
