Ole Miss put together a complete performance in its first action against an opponent Friday night, blanking Central Arkansas 3-0 in an exhibition match at the Ole Miss Soccer Stadium.
The Rebels were led by sophomore Channing Foster in their tuneup for this week’s opener against Louisiana. Foster scored a pair of goals in the first half and nearly had a hat trick off a corner kick before both teams went to the locker room, but the goal was waved off after it was ruled to have come after time expired in the half.
Senior Tara Sullivan eventually scored the Rebels’ third goal in the second half after being denied by the UCA keeper a few minutes earlier. Sullivan then produced a strike that had no chance of being saved with the ball caroming off the post and in to increase Ole Miss’ lead.
CeCe Kizer and freshman Haleigh Stackpole each had an assist while fellow freshman Morgan McAslan turned in a clean sheet in the net. McAslan saved a curling shot in the second half to thwart UCA’s biggest scoring threat.
Ole Miss’ opener against Louisiana kicks off Friday at 7 p.m. at the Ole Miss Soccer Complex. The Rebels will turn around next Sunday and play Western Kentucky at 6 p.m.
