Ole Miss’ defense already lost one key player for the year and Sunday evening brought more bad news.
Defensive back Montrell Custis suffered a torn ACL during Saturday night’s game against No. 1 Alabama. The injury occurred in the third quarter. An Ole Miss spokesman confirmed the injury.
It was a non-contact injury when Custis was trying to tackle Alabama wide receiver Jerry Juedy. Custis stopped himself near the sideline then went down to the ground.
The junior had been the starting linebacker at the STAR position and in the first three games of the season, recorded 13 tackles (12 solo) and four pass breakups.
Vernon Dasher is listed behind Custis and will presumably take over the starting duties but more information will be given during Matt Luke’s weekly press conference on Monday.
