Ken L. Simmons, Sr.

Mr. Ken L. Simmons, Sr., 83, passed away Sunday, Sept. 16, 2018, at his home in Lafayette Springs, Miss. Visitation will be Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2018, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Coleman Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Thursday, Sept. 20, 2018, at 11 a.m. also at Coleman Funeral Home. Interment will be at Springdale Cemetery (1429 Hwy. 334, Oxford, MS 38655). Rev. Mike Vandlerlip will officiate. Coleman Funeral Home of Oxford is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Simmons was born in Lafayette County, Miss. He spent most of his life as a mechanic. Mr. Simmons was always fascinated with classic cars. He always enjoyed watching classic car television shows. Mr. Simmons also had a great love for animals, especially his dogs. However, nothing was more important to him than his family.

Mr. Simmons was an amazing grandfather and great-grandfather. He always put his family first, no matter the situation. Mr. Simmons also served our country in the United States Air Force.

Mr. Simmons is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret Simmons of Oxford; one son, Kenny (Janie Mae) Simmons of Oxford; three daughters, Debbie Nunley of Thaxton, Vickie (Martin) Boyer of Riverview, Fla. and Melinda Burke of Meridian, Miss.; three granddaughters, Jill Boyer of Washington, Kayla (Josh) Enlow of Thaxton  and Krystal Carlton of Pontotoc, Miss.; four grandsons, Corey (Natalie) Williams of Sardis, Miss., Derrick Boyer of Riverview, Casey (David) Williams of Birmingham, Aa. and Daniel Lee (Gladys) Terry of Kosciusko, Miss.; two great-granddaughters, Alanah Lynn-Marie Smith of Thaxton and Elizabeth Williams of Sardis; three great-grandsons, Harland Dean Enlow of Thaxton, and Aiden Williams and Colton Williams, both of Sardis; two sisters, Martha Russell of Jackson, Miss. and Nina (Thomas) Henry of Oxford; two brothers, Bill (Francis) Simmons of Southaven, Miss. and Danny K. (Carolyn) Simmons of Oxford and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Simmons was preceded in death by his parents, Newt Zenus Simmons and Opal Simmons and one granddaughter, Jennifer Boyer.

In honor of Mr. Ken Simmons, Sr.’s, service to our country, the flag of the United States Air Force will be flown at Coleman Funeral Home.
